The Maria Fisher Memorial Scholarship Award

The Maria Fisher Memorial Scholarship Award: Celebrating Kindness and Creativity

Two one time, $1,750.00 scholarships will be awarded as a memorial to Maria Fisher, a 2017 graduate of Hempfield High School, and 8-year Penn Legacy player, who passed away after being struck by a car, in October of 2017, while attending the University of Maryland as a freshman. In her years at Hempfield, and during her brief time at the University of Maryland, Maria made an effort each day to bring a smile to the faces of her friends and acquaintances. She was passionate about writing and performing music, playing soccer, as well as creative writing. She had written many short stories and poems, as well as a near -complete novel. She intended to pursue a career in Psychology or Criminology. Maria had a strong faith in God, and had a passion for serving others locally as well as through mission trips. It would be her wish to encourage others to follow those same passions. To that end, The Maria Fisher Memorial Scholarship Awards will be presented to two Penn Legacy players who meet the following requirements:
  • Current 2017/18 Penn Legacy player, that has played with Penn Legacy for a minimum of 4-years and will graduate in 2018
  • GPA: The student should have a non-weighted GPA of 3.0 or greater
  • Plans to attend any post-secondary educational institution
  • Has written or performed music of any genre (submit an example of written or performed work)
  • Provide a written character reference from a coach, teacher, pastor, or employer
Applicants will be judged by family members of Maria. All applications must be postmarked by April 27, 2018 and should be mailed to The Maria Fisher Memorial Scholarship c/o Penn Legacy Soccer Club, 1525 Oregon Pike - Suite 1602, Lancaster, PA 17601

2018 Futsal Free Play & Clinics

Free Play "Street Soccer" Program: this is a continuation of our futsal sessions from previous years. The big difference is that instead of Sunday afternoons, they will now be held on Monday & Tuesday evenings on the hardcourts at The Nook. Remember, these sessions are already included in your travel fees so there is no additional cost. The players can just show up and they will be placed on a team and will play under supervision, but no actual coaching takes place. In other words, "street soccer" format. The dates for these free play sessions are:

Mondays - January 8th, 22nd
Tuesdays - January 9th, 16th

PTP, u9, u10 - 6 to 7pm. Boys & Girls.
u11, u12, u13 - 7 to 8pm. Boys & Girls.
u14 and older - 8 to 9pm. Boys & Girls.

Futsal Clinics: On January 8th, 9th, 16th, and 22nd from 5 to 6pm we are offering a two-part clinic series on the game of futsal. Basically the player can choose which part I and which part II to attend. January 8th and 9th (Part I) will be identical sessions, as will January 16th and 22nd (Part II) and you can register here:

Register Now >

These sessions will be run by Rossi and Seamus and other members of the Penn Legacy coaching staff. They will include instruction, exercises, and small-sided futsal games. There will be a nominal charge of $25 per player to cover rental fees. The $25 will cover both sessions. Note: For the $25 fee, your child can attend one, two, three or all four of the clinics, just understand that the January 8 & 9 clinics will be the same, as will the January 16 & 22 clinics.

2017 Winter SoX Schedule

Back for its tenth straight year, this program is all about technical development through quality repetition. These are intense and demanding sessions (hence the use of the word Xcellence).

Where? Lanco Fieldhouse
When? Saturday mornings, 9-noon.
1st hour - PTP, u9 through u11
2nd hour - u12 through u15
3rd hour - u16 and older

Used Soccer Ball Donation Request

Used Soccer Ball Donation Request
Two years ago, on a Christmas family vacation to the Las Terenas in the Dominican Republic, we took 25+ old soccer balls we had accumulated over the years with us. Our plan was to find some aspiring soccer players and see if they were interested in putting them to good use. The response was overwhelming. Within 5 minutes of arriving at a local playground, we had over 50 youngsters begging for balls. Our only regret was seeing the disappointment on the faces of the children who showed up after we had exhausted our supply of balls… We stayed for over 2 hours and played with some extremely excited players who now owned the first soccer ball of their lives.
This year we are returning to the same small fishing village on Dec 23rd. Our goal is to bring over 100 balls with us and redo the giveaway. We also plan to take any slightly used soccer shirts we can collect with us. Since Tim Bupp and I exhausted our supply of used balls during the last excursion, I need help in collecting balls and shirts and would appreciate any donations.
Thanks in advance for your consideration on this request.
-Mike O’Hearn (former board member at Penn Legacy)
Donations of gently used balls or old jerseys or uniform items may be dropped off at the Penn Legacy Office on the following dates and times:
Dec 6 - 12 pm to 5:30 pm
Dec 7 - 9 am to 5:30 pm
Dec 8 - 9 am to 4pm
Dec 11 - 9 am to 5:30 pm
